If he is so concerned then there should be no money given to the welfare program of those that are on illegal drugs or to all the billions given to the illegal aliens entering this country, lets care more for our own, the elderly and those that have given their own to protect us, the veterans and those that gave their all at 9/11.

  • Jack Schwend

There's a special place in Hell for Paul. Disgusting.

  • Treblig56

Repeal the Tax cut, problem solved.

  • disqus_8R28ZmEsno

"Any new program that's going to have the longevity of 70, 80 years should be offset by cutting spending that's less valuable. We need, at the very least, to have this debate," Paul said.

Anyone who actually disagrees with that and aren't just hating on him for being a R need to take a serious look at how they view our country's financial situation.

Will this bill help all first responders involved in terrorist attacks or only those involved with the 911 attacks?

Do the first responders in OK city get help too?

  • SSC

Fools! Even healthy first responders to 9/11 will not live as long as this bill is to provide funds for them. That's the point. That's what makes it so costly.

  • My two cents

I have a sudden respect for Paul Rand's neighbor. Guy had it right.

  • disqus_8R28ZmEsno

pretty interesting how Rand gets flak for doing what ALL congressmen should do, which is try to find a way to offset costs and pay for out of control spending. good job, Rand.

  • Forward forward

From what I can see, Rand Paul delights in being wrong. He thinks it makes him look maverick-y, but it actually makes him look like a dolt who is just plain wrong 99% of the time.

  • Forward forward

What a useless, disgusting hypocrite. He votes FOR adding TRILLIONS to the debt for the GOP's worse than useless Tax Breaks for Millionaires bill.
But when it comes to doing the decent, moral right thing, he is suddenly a fiscal conservative?!? I know it's Kentucky but how in the world did this guy get to be a US Senator?

  • ROBOTIX JONES

Paul is just fine with tax cuts for the wealthy and Trump golf outings but actually try to spend money wisely and those most important to us and he says no.

This is your typical Republican party today.

  • BD70

Rand Paul got his via the tax cut and now he is trying to be fiscally conservative. lmao! Pathetic. Perfect example of socialism for the rich and pure capitalism for the rest of us.

  • Personal

I know how we can pay for it. Undo Trump’s tax scheme that mostly profited the top 5%.

  • sane one

So it was OK not to fund the tax cut but not OK for this??? Something in the water there in Kentucky?

  • ruelph

Senator Rand Paul voted for the tax cut (for the rich) that added $1 trillion to the deficit, however, it is not okay to increase the deficit regarding compensation for 9/11 first responders. Really! McConnell/Paul – rattlesnake/skunk.

  • foldincaulfield

But they never raise questions about how to pay trillions for war. It's starting to look like damn near every Republican is basically a creep who only got elected because he/she had tons of money backing him/her.

  • Mr. Roggers

Hopefully the First Responders across this Great Country remember the GOP Controlled Senate and how they never supported them and when they had the ultimate chance to help them, the GOP Senators all let them down. These are Trumps GOP Senators who vote on anything and everything he wants them to but not this. Hopefully they remember this when voting time comes for any of these crooks including Trump.

  • biome

I agree that the deficit and debt are very serious problems that should be addressed, but the amount of money they are talking about is paltry. I do not think that was the appropriate time to be a stick in the mud. I would hope that full-time police and firefighters would have decent insurance to cover most costs, but volunteer firefighters don't. It's a small number of people who responded to an act of war and faced conditions far outside the norm for their professions.

  • BluntNotPC

"Sen. Rand Paul objected to passing the measure over how much the bill would cost."
Other outlets are reporting he objected to a non vote unanimous passing of the legislation. Essentially he wants people to actual VOTE so there is a record of who voted for, against or didn't show up.

  • GbreadMan

Rand Paul votes in support for the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which according to the CBO added $200 billion per year to the federal budget deficit....then rails against outrageous budget spending with a bill that costs $1 billion per year to help dying victims of 9/11.

  • madison

Our first res ponders put their lives on the line everyday for us. They need all our help.

  • Manomath

They just approved a 1.5 trillion dollar tax cut of which 80% will go to the wealthiest 1% over the next 8 years. Now he's worried about the cost to fund the healthcare of America's warriors of 9/11????? The GOP has lost it's way. They are without a map, compass, stars or sunlight to guide them. We should NOT expect them to lead us anywhere.

  • TexWho

Personally, I think our allies Saudi Arabia should finance the fund in its entirety.
They are after all the ones primarily responsible. Not only because of the fact that most of the perpetrators came from their, but also because it was their state sponsored religious cult (Salafi Wahhabism) that brought it about.

  • Bobo McStevens

    Hey now, he's right!

We need to pay for that giant GOP tax cut to the ultra wealthy and corporations!!

Sorry 9-11 First Responders but the fat cats really needed that tax break.

  • Oak Kay

As everyone knows Rand Paul is a FLAKE and normally I would chalk this up to his CRAZY but as we have seen many many times in the past when something like this comes up Republicans ALWAYS pull this (CENSORED)!!!
BTW the THREE TRILLION DOLLARS which is ALL BORROWED MONEY( mostly from China that is IF they are still buying our DEBT) that funded the Republicans Richmans Tax Kickback to their wealthy Donors somehow did not seem to need to be offset???

  • Tim Abell

Might be time for Rand Paul to move on.

  • Jack Cole

Didn't anyone tell Rand that deficits and debts don't matter when the GOP is in charge?

  • G5Texan

They only guy that asked the right question and he is flamed for it....

    Typical jackwagon politicians

  • Uptownman

For something that's going to last 70+ years, we should identify funding. Democrats would be smart to suggest it come out of the defense budget.

  • Uraq Lowique

Am I the only one who thinks it is crazy to have a fund for this that last until--what was it, 2092?! I think this is an emotional knee jerk reaction. Nobody wants to be against it, but it makes no sense to me.

Firefighters face hazards on their job. It's part of the job. What makes this different than, say, a chemical fire at some industrial plant? What exactly are we paying for? The hospital bills for every single firefighter plus some kind of allowance for all of their kids and cousins until they're 50 years old? Because I don't understand why it cost so much. We have already allocated 7 billion dollars. That's 7 BILLION already. How the hell is it possible that more money is needed?!

  • Sarah Levine

Rand had no problem with voting to cut the tax rate for corporations however without reconciling the lost revenue. Typical addled libertarian thinking or is that just Rand Paul?

  • tet1953

Now he is worried about the deficit? Thanks to the massive tax cut he voted for, the deficit will be a record trillion dollars. But he won't "waste" money on 9-11 first responders.

  • W Lee

Maybe someone should reply the hearing tapes of Mr. Luis Alvarez for Mr. Paul who recently died of cancer because he stayed at ground zero trying to find survivors of this tragedy and afterwards Mr. Paul can explain personally to his and other families of sick rescue workers why he objects to the cost?

  • Dosadi

Do away with Trump's ridiculous tax cut for the rich. That should pay for it. Or just bill the rich directly. Hmmmm.

  • Kent

Rug Paul's neighbor should tune him up again.

  • cudagirl

Well we can afford to have a military parade in Washington to boost the ego of Trump but we cannot afford to help those who risked their lives to find those we lost in 9/11. Sick!!!!!!!!!!

  • ZXC

In other words, Senator Paul, trillions for the rich but not one penny for those who risked their lives on 9/11.

I wish I could say he was not a typical GOPer.

  • Bill O'Neil

Sen. Paul should suggest taking a big bite out of the bloated military budget if he is truly worried about paying for it.

  • dan

Rand Paul embraces tax cuts for the richest Americans and corporate welfare.

  • Badger Land

Sorry Senator Paul, you voted for major tax cuts for corporations while offering no way to pay for it. Your talk of fiscal responsibility now is just lip service.

  • Al C

So there is a cost objection to this bill which will cost how much? - and that's from somebody who voted for the tax reform that cost how much? - a bill to compensate the service members that lost their health (and lives) in the worst terrorist attack on our country? - and this is not travesty?
How about passing the law that would ban those who stall bills like this from publicly attending memorial services for service members, wrapping themselves in the flag (which, by the way, by itself is a violation of the federal law), shaking the hands of the service members and saying "Thank you for your service" because this is hypocrisy.

  • ZXC

Schumer: "these first responders are no different than our soldiers!"

Shame on the GOPer Rand Paul. Not for asking that we should know how we're going to pay for it but for his hypocrisy as he approves over $700B for defense without asking a similar question.

Didn't his parents teach him anything about being penny wise and dollar foolish?

  • c.g.

I wonder how much $ was wasted on Comrade Trump campaign rally on July 4th in DC? Did Rand Paul object to taxpayer $ used for that?

  • Lee Thompson

What does Rand Paul suggest be cut to pay for this? If he wants to repeal trump's tax cuts, I'm all for that. If he wants to go after Medicare, Social Security, food stamps or Medicaid, he needs to step back and think again.

  • Hemp4Profit

Never forget. Republicans are in it for themselves.
