Her community service should be working at an immigration detention center.

She will probably scale back up there after today's SCOTUS ruling.

Definately needs the 30 days in jail.

Seriously, with the packing tape? Just a tad melodramatic...that's way more "Look at me!" than it is "Listen to my cause."

I'll support anyone's right to exercise the 1st and engage in peaceful protest, but that support ends when you start breaking laws and causing a massive disruption to others' lives in the process. She seems not to care at all about any of that and asserts she's not a criminal, so it'll be interesting to see if she fulfills her community service sentence.

  • Ronald Bandor

She says she is not a criminal. Lol. You committed a crime. 4,300 people were evacuated because of you. Get over yourself. You are welcome to express your opinion on this topic or any other -- but you are not welcome to block 4,300 people from doing what they want to do.

I predict she does not do her hours of community service. She seems pretty self-centered and actually doing something constructive with her time might not play to her strengths.

She had a right to protest. Granted, she did not have the right to what she did, however I think she deserves community service instead of jail time. I say this because others, mostly non-whites, get much lesser sentences. Did those guys who scaled the Brooklyn bridge to hang a flag get prison time? Did that guy (so-called Spiderman), who scaled that Manhattan skyscraper get prison time? This is just my opinion but I think the racial climate at the moment in this country is going cause the court to make an example out of her.

She'll probably get more time than Manafort did. White collar crime pays.

I am sure that deciding to break the law and being incarcerated has hindered a lot of people from getting a job. Why would this person be special?

  • Troyal

Lock her up for a bit to let her think about her actions.

She deserves jail time. If she wanted to get a job then she should not have climbed the Statue of Liberty. She not only put other people's lives in danger but she also caused harm to the people who wanted to visit the statue.

  • Guest

Weird "protest". What was she protesting?

  • tet1953

Did they ever fulfill the judge's request to visit the statue? I hope not. He wanted to do the same risky thing, I believe.

  • Bobby Restor

    Good.

Jail time, damages for lost revenue of the tour operators, and reimbursing the cost of her rescue should do it.

  • Ronald Bandor

    30 days does seem fair.

It is going to hurt your job?! Yeah that's what happens when you commit a crime.

  • bflogayle

She probably should have had been confined to Bellevue Hospital for evaluation.

  • Leiki Dragon

The French Spider man scaled the NYT building and unfurled a banner that read "global warming kills more people than 9/11 every week" He was arrested and the charges were dropped. Never went to prison. I think this is a racist crime against this woman who wanted to raise awareness about ICE, and her skin color is holding her to a harsher standard.

  • Paul Smith

Why did they evacuate the area? In my opinion all they had to do was just make sure nobody was underneath where she might have fallen. Did she do any damage to the statue? She probably should find another way to protest. One that is legal.

  • Hey Beavis

Fine her and be done with it. If she doesn't pay, then stick her in the slammer.

  • The Terminator

I have no problem with it.

If memory serves me correctly they evacuated the whole area. Ruined many peoples tour. A lot people from all over the world picked that day to visit. Some (I say most) couldn't just say, "We will come back tomorrow."

What did her protest change? Nothing! It changed her lifestyle.

Can't find a job? Should have thought about that before she put on her climbing shoes.

Some questions the news rarely tells you. Did she even have a job? Has she ever had a job?

What day did this event happen? Weekday? Weekend?

    As a side note.

My fathers name is on a plaque for donating a large sum of money to Lee Iacocca's rehab of the statue.

Father was born in England and came to the US at three years old.

She will likely get about 4 years and 11 mos., if Manafort sentencing guidelines are used.

She’s obviously done so many a personal wrong by highlighting that the Statue of Liberty symbolizes equality and welcome of those different from us.

She treated our beautiful lady with far more respect in climbing her than the gag that the present Administration makes her wear.
