the republican Nixon party is held again in the court?
    EMOLUENTS?
    Oh yeah that's fine he's a republican.

  • Bud Simpson

Holy Cow! What isn't crooked about this bag of hot air?

  • Bobo McStevens

GOP then: Pres Carter MUST sell his ***Peanut Farm***.

GOP now: Trump has many businesses that could personally benefit him as President? So what!

Now imagine the GOP if Obama had as many businesses as Trump. I wonder what they would say....

  • Andrew Lum

The real reason why he wanted to be President so bad...... to cover up all his corrupt and shady deals especially this new hotel

  • jataga5000

The outcome of the case will depend largely on how the term "emolument" comes to be defined....they really mean redefined....kinda like when they redefined the word sex.........because it already has a definition.

  • Dodger

If the money goes to the Treasury - what's the problem? So sick of starting so many "investigations" before there is one completed and serious investigations just get pushed to the back. Only 2 more years of US voters getting pushed aside for Democrats agenda to "get" the republicans. 2 wasted parties that do nothing for the voter or taxpayer.

“The president is unique in the Constitutional structure”

Unfortunately for the president, the Constitution provides no unique protections. Justice Department 'policy' is not the law. Congressional dysfunction should not stop criminal prosecution of anyone.

  • inonepeice

Trump is not unique and immune from the matter. Period.

  • Red Hawk

If Bill Clinton could be sued by Paula Jones while being a sitting president, then Trump can be sued by Maryland and DC who represent their constituents

  • TheoreticallyScottCA2

Its blatantly obvious that staying at The Trump hotel is a way of currying favor with Trump and passing money his way.

Its an utter embarrassment to America that this corrupt Banana Republic behavior is allowed to continue for so long. How low America's standards have sunk.

  • drathvedar

In the dictionary under 'grifter' there should be a picture of Trump.

  • Marijuana Mayor

Our tax dollars are being used to legally defend the Grifter-in-Chief on a daily basis, yet the Constitution loving Repubs refuse to take any action. What a country!

  • Truthfully

So the propaganda tRump uses to seduce his followers seems to work.
He tweets a measly $400,000 check he donates to his Wall as a Bigly Deal?

Come on people do the numbers. This is just a tax deduction. While he swindles the American Government AKA American Citizens out of BILLIONS!

  • Bud Simpson

When did the DOJ become the Trump families legal defense team? ...and why?

  • Sal Monela

Watching an interview with Trump and the President of Brazil. I've never seen someone who can talk so much and say so little. Words are coming out of Trumps mouth but they are a rambling, incoherent mess. Everything is being worked on or being looked in to; it's all the best ever; absolutely no details; crazy stuff.

  • Dukedaddy

Trump is a crook and a con man. Why should we be surprised about this?

  • OneMoreYes33a

There are only three possible reason to support Trump and his ilk:
    a) Flat out greed - he's giving you money, directly or indirectly.
    b) Racism - he hates the same people you do.
    c) Ignorance - you refuse to do any research and only believe what he tells you .

  • OneMoreYes33a

"In fact, we go to great lengths to discourage foreign government patronage at our properties."

They just can't help lying. It's in their DNA or something.

  • DanBal

Why are lawyers from our DOJ defending this con man? He should hire his on attorneys--and considering how long this case is taking to work its way through the court, that could be expensive.

  • ROBOTIX JONES

He's only in this to enrich himself.

  • Mr Wayne

The Trumps are full of ca-ca. Their only concern is self enrichment.

  • fmd160

Trump's defense team said "(they)simply prefer the "Trump brand" and are not currying favor with the president when patronizing the Trump Hotel."
Does anyone really believe that they prefer the "Trump brand" when he has made it so well known what he thinks (badly) of most foreign companies?

  • ZXC

"In fact, we go to great lengths to discourage foreign government patronage at our properties."

Can you believe this? If you do then you must have also swallowed whole the other 9,000+ lies from the Trump Crime Family.

  • Andrew Lum

Investigate, investigate, investigate...... the walls are closing in and the clock is ticking fast for this dictator wannabe

  • Prophet With Honor

Exactly how do we know the money turned over was correct? Did they provide a financial analysis in writing? Of course not, they just say "trust us".

  • Jeff Wainright

And we are surprised why, exactly? Folks, the rest of the world knew exactly what Trump was before the 2016 election. Some of them even tried to warn us, and have spent the last two years scratching their heads trying to figure out if Americans are suffering from some kind of collective insanity. Trump was a swindler and a crook before he was elected, and anyone who thought he would change or grow into the job was out of their barking minds.

  • EvilAtheist

Toss another felony onto the pile for Donnie McTreason.

  • Miguel

The problem with the whole case is "profiting"-- Trump companies are well known to not be profitable given how many bankruptcies he has been through.

  • John

I wonder if any foreign persons ever bought a copy of one of Obama's many books. If so, undoubtedly Obama made provisions for returning, deflecting, or rejecting the profit.

  • GarfieldRocks

Donald is trying to sneak in that praise me parade again. This time it's for the 4th of July in addition to the one that DC already has for that day.

  • NuffAlready

Just check the White House "privileged" visitor check- in list against the hotel patrons for that same time period.

  • GarfieldRocks

Even President Carter sold his little peanut farm to be in compliance with all the rules and laws involved with being a public servant.

  • justanewsreader

Just exactly how is the T.O. "discouraging" foreign entities from staying at Trump Hotels? They posting signs saying: FOREIGNERS GO AWAY, or taking out ad in magazines: NOT FOREIGNERS PLEASE. Yea, right. B.S. They use every back channel communication and connection to "push" that business into their properties while acting as the choir in the church. Gimmeeee a nice big break from this criminal activity. Get a new president.

  • Roger

No end to trumps corruption and crime

  • DownTheStretch

Just because he was elected do you think for a minute he has changed? He was all about making money previously. Did he then morph into a great public servant? This goes without saying but everyone should be watching their backs

  • Guest

Is there anyone now who does not understand?

-- A businessman with no public service experience and no education in law or government makes a lousy president.
-- Anyone with massive holdings in other countries are almost, by definition, in conflict of interest.
-- Presidents should not be earning money off the federal government. How much does the government pay every time Trump goes to his own properties? It's got to a lot considering all the secret service people.

  • writergal

I'm surprised Don Jr. even bothered trying to lie about this. He might as well have said "Ha ha! Yes, we're making money hand over fist because our dad is the president. He's getting richer too, all off the backs of the gullible rubes who elected him. And there's nothing anybody can do about it. We know how to get around all the laws. So thanks for all the money, suckers!"

  • Bluejay

Another biggie here is that the building is owned by the federal government (the old post office), and the fact that Trump (as president) is leasing it is also illegal.

  • Erwin Schrodinger

"In fact, we go to great lengths to discourage foreign government patronage at our properties."

Great lengths? How hard is it to simply refuse to book rooms or meals for foreign governments? Do they book under an alias?

  • Nearl56 13

    Berlusconian graft.
