Having taught, coached, and sponsored clubs for three decades in my state's largest public high school, I can tell you that teenagers do pass away due to natural causes - most often to families who can't afford the complete medical checkups that ALL people get in virtually every other advanced nation. Many of today's overweight and obese kids - and that's a majority of them - have high blood pressure but don't know it.

There are so many kids I've worked with who couldn't carry more than a few pounds because their parent's can't afford the deductible for another shoulder operation, who can't see the board because the parents can't afford to replace broken glasses, etc. etc. In MANY cases, I paid the $20 for their sports physicals because they couldn't pay that either.
How stupid are we not to be willing to make these kids more able to become skilled assets to society who pay taxes for decades instead of needing handouts?

I hope the lack of care is not the case here and that death was caused by something completely unexpected (usually heart attack) and not something that would have been prevented in other nations.

We didn't start practice until August.
    Heatstroke?
    My sympathies to her parents.

Don't know how this poor Young Woman's death made it all the way up to the National news level, wonder if there's more to this than just having died during band practice. We're all sending our thoughts and love to Her Family and Loved Ones, hope they get an idea of what caused this as quickly as possible, couldn't imagine what it would be like losing my little Girl like this and not knowing how or why it happened.
