Some questions for clarification. I might have missed something in the article and I read it twice... If I did please point it out.

Does the article use the term "recruit" to identify someone in the delayed entry program (DEP), or someone who is actually in basic training/boot camp? While I suppose one could technically interchange the two. I know that while you have signed the contract with the military for the DEP program, you still have a bit more paperwork to do before you actually leave for boot camp.

I was never called recruit while in DEP. I was only referred to as recruit when I reached boot camp. I think the term they used for DEP back then was enlistee. Just some random thoughts. And it has been, eh, awhile.... Things might have changed since then.

I don't think the military can afford to turn away eligible people who are willing to serve.

While omitting information on a security form is wrong, why weren't they given the opportunity to correct it? There were MANY such omissions of White House staff that were in much more sensitive posts. Many got to do "re-dos" multiple times!

So much for legal paths to citizenship

Any person who wants to put on the uniform, follow the rules and risk their life for this country not only deserves to serve but should have a path to citizenship.

It's just common sense given this country has 20 to 30 million illegal aliens living and working here now..

".... list foreign contacts from Eastern Europe and Russia, despite the fact that his father managed the military department of a foreign country and his brother-in-law worked for a foreign political party."

He did not choose these relatives or their activities. That is a bit concerning, but in general it is not good to have recruits from outside the country.
